Recommended Settings for Communicating with Foreigners

If you often use the extension to communicate with foreigners (e.g., using WhatsApp Web), the following settings can help you improve your efficiency:

  1. In the Settings Page > Webpage Selection > Assist Key, use the Ctrl key as the assist key separately and check After releasing the assist key, translate the selected text in the webpage.
  2. In the Settings Page > Translation Panel > General Settings, check Auto Copy.

After setting this up, you can directly enter Chinese in the chat input box, then press Ctrl + A to select all the text you entered. At this time, the translation panel will automatically pop up and translate the text you selected (if it doesn't, you can press the Ctrl key again), and after the translation is completed, the translation result will be automatically copied to the clipboard. Next, you only need to press Ctrl + V to paste the translation result into the chat input box and send it.

If you are an e-commerce practitioner, it is strongly recommended that you try the e-commerce translation service of Alibaba Translation (Professional Edition). You can enable it in the Settings Page > Translation Source > Enable Translation Source.

Set the Secondary Target Language Dynamically to the Language of the Last Translated Text

Since v8.5.4, the extension supports setting the secondary target language "dynamically to the language of the last translated text", which is useful when communicating with people from multiple language backgrounds.

For example, if you are communicating with both French and English speakers at the same time, when you receive a message from a French speaker, you definitely want the next translation to translate Chinese into French to reply to the French speaker's message; similarly, when you receive a message from an English speaker, you want to translate Chinese into English. In this case, you can enable this option, so that when you translate the message from the French speaker into Chinese, the secondary target language will be dynamically set to "French", so the next time you translate Chinese, you will get the French translation result.

Starting from v8.5.6:

  • When you translate Chinese, "Chinese (Simplified)" will not be set as the language of the last translation.
  • The extension will use its built-in language recognition to recognize the text you are translating, but occasionally it may not be accurate, so if you have enabled Google Translate, it will use the language recognized by Google Translate.
